PSV not intending to sell Cody Gakpo in January

PSV director Marcel Brands has confirmed that the club aren’t intending to let Cody Gakpo leave in the January transfer window.

Gakpo ended up staying at the club in the summer, choosing to do so rather than join Leeds or Southampton with Manchester United dropping their interest in the Dutchman.

However, Erik ten Hag’s side and multiple other big clubs are all but certain to try and sign him in January given how good he has been thus far this season.

He has 13 goals and 17 assists in 23 matches and has been linked with some of Europe’s biggest names such as Man Utd, Liverpool and Real Madrid as a result.

It’s widely expected that he’ll leave in January, especially if he has a good World Cup, but Brands says PSV plan to keep him until the end of the season.

“No, because PSV vs Ajax is also happening next year,” he said on Goedemorgen Eredivisie when asked if yesterday’s match between the top two in the Eredivisie would be the last one between the sides that Gakpo played in.

The general manager did admit though that it could be the last time Gakpo plays for PSV away to Ajax, suggesting he’ll leave in the summer.

“Then it could be his last, yes,” he answered.
