PSV midfielder voted UEFA Champions League Player of the Week

Joey Veerman has been announced as the UEFA Champions League player of the week. The 25-year-old PSV midfielder impressed with his performance against Borussia Dortmund. The Dutch side came back from a goal down to level from the spot and certainly had enough ball possession to win the game. They travel to Germany in a few weeks time with hopes that their good performance in the first leg will not have been wasted.

Veerman himself was at the heart of much of what the side did that evening, as he has been all season in the Eredivisie. He made 66 passes at a success rate of 83%, with 12 of these being passes into the final third. He also recovered the ball 11 times for the side as they ended the game with 55% of the ball.

The central midfielder has arguably been PSV’s best player in the league this season. In 19 league matches he has scored three goals and provided 10 assists. The midfielder cost the side €6m from SC Heerenveen in January of 2022. Since then he has played 104 games for PSV, scoring 20 goals and providing 34 assists. He has also been capped a handful of times by the Dutch national team. According to Transfermarkt, his value is currently at €24m.
