PSV manager Peter Bosz has provided an update on the injuries to Ricardo Pepi and Alassane Pléa, among others. The American will not be in the starting lineup on Saturday, while Pléa has undergone successful surgery.
Regarding Pléa’s serious knee injury, Bosz said ahead of his side’s FC Groningen clash: “This is obviously terrible for him. Having barely been in the game and sustaining such a nasty injury is something you wouldn’t wish on anyone.
“But he’s doing well; he had successful surgery yesterday. I spoke to him briefly beforehand. Afterwards, I spoke to the team doctor. We’ve been without him for a long time. Alassane has become very popular in a short time; he’s a really nice guy. You never wish this on anyone, but especially not on him.”
Ricardo Pepi was sidelined for six months with an injury and made his comeback in the race for the Johan Cruyff Shield. He had to miss the matches against Sparta Rotterdam and FC Twente, but will he be available again on Saturday?
“He’s been out for a long time, so it’s logical that he needs some rest now and then. We’ll give him time. He’ll train again today, and then we’ll determine whether he’ll be in the squad tomorrow. However, he definitely won’t be in the starting lineup.”
Bosz emphasized that PSV is still looking for an additional striker. “We need two good strikers. We had them, but now that Alassane is gone, we’re looking for another striker. You have to adapt quickly. Of course, you’re supportive, but we have to make sure you’re back at full strength.”
Bosz also revealed that Mauro Júnior will not be in the squad against Groningen. “He’s rolled his ankle twice. He’s working hard, but he just won’t make it.”
Joey Veerman is still struggling with a thigh injury and is also absent. Whether new signing Paul Wanner will be in the squad remains to be seen. “He’s only been here for one day and will join the training session first. We’ll see how he’s doing then.”
