PSV director yet to make transfer approach for Cody Gakpo replacement

PSV Eindhoven’s director of football Marcel Brands has confirmed the club are yet to make any approaches as they attempt to replace Cody Gakpo, Voetbal International reports.

The director was asked whether Gakpo – who completed his move to Liverpool this month – will be replaced by someone from within the Eredivisie, something that Brands has not ruled out on but is yet to make any official approach any player.

There have been links with a number of players including Jesper Karlsson and Donyell Malen who have both been dismissed pretty quickly by Brands.

He said: “Yes, PSV always first looks at the Dutch market, but it is often difficult to get someone there who is there immediately. Jesper Karlsson? Yes, he is a good player, but he is not on our list.

Donyell Malen? That is a very good player, I also read that name, but he has only just left here. We haven’t approached anyone yet.”

Swedish international Karlsson has been linked with a move in January to the Philips Stadion having impressed for AZ Alkmaar having picked up 33 goals in 90 appearances since joining the Eredivisie side back in 2020.

Former PSV striker Malen has been linked with a return to his old club just over a year since joining Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund. The Dutch international is yet to score this season having made 10 league appearances for his current club.
