‘PSV to start search for new goalkeeper: Benítez to leave for good’

According to Eindhovens Dagblad and Voetbal International, PSV and Walter Benítez will part ways after this season.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper is reportedly set to leave at the end of his current contract. PSV have held talks with Benítez, but contract negotiations have come to nothing. There is reportedly ‘plenty of interest’ in the goalkeeper, who discussed the options with his representative this week.

Benítez is in his third season at PSV, and this exit will seal the end of a successful personal period that saw him register his first Argentinian caps.

According to ED, ‘the club previously made him an offer to sign until mid-2027. However, the negotiations about a new contract failed and PSV did not return to it. Benítez himself was ultimately open to a longer stay, but there was no response.’

Benítez has so far played 128 times for PSV, keeping a clean sheet 42 times. With PSV, he won the national championship once, the KNVB Cup once, and the Johan Cruyff Shield twice.
