PSV Eindhoven kept up their 100% record to the Eredivisie season as they embark on an important period in their season before the winter break. PSV took on FC Twente at De Grolsch Veste on Saturday in their thirteenth game of the Eredivisie season. The team from Enschede sat third in the table before the game kicked off and posed a real threat of ending PSV’s unbeaten start to the season. However, Twente defender Mees Hilgers was sent off early on in the clash following a horror challenge on Hirving Lozano, which made the game significantly easier for the team at the top of the table.
Joey Veerman was able to put PSV into the lead just before the end of the first half after an assist from midfield partner Johan Bakayoko. An own-goal from Twente defender Robin Pröpper put the visitors two goals ahead merely four minutes after the restart and made any possible comeback for the home side even more difficult. Substitute Malik Tillman came off the bench and set up Bakayoko for PSV’s third and final goal ten minutes before the end of the game.
PSV travel to Sevilla in midweek for their fifth Champions League fixture of the season, followed by a clash with the current league champions, Feyenoord in Rotterdam on Sunday. PSV have a healthy lead of seven points over the team in second but the game next weekend will be a real test for their unbeaten start to the Eredivisie season.
