Predicted Ajax XI vs Union Berlin

Ajax return to European action as they prepare to welcome Bundesliga side Union Berlin in the Europa League knockout round play-offs.

The Amsterdam club dropped from the Champions League after finishing third in their group which saw Napoli and Liverpool progress to the next round in UEFA’s top-tier club competition while Rangers finished bottom.

Meanwhile, Union Berlin finished second in their group just a point behind Belgian side Royal Union Saint-Gilloise but were two points ahead of Portuguese side Braga who drop to the Europa Conference League.

John Heitinga will be keen to make his footing as Ajax’s boss but face a side who find themselves just a point behind leaders Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga table and on an impressive six-match winning run in all competitions.

Heitinga, who replaced Alfred Schreuder at the helm, is expected to make one change at most from the side which won convincingly against RKC Waalwijk.
