Ajax got their Champions League campaign off to the perfect start, cruising to victory against Rangers in their opening match.
In what was a fantastic team performance, here’s how well we think every player performed.
Remko Pasveer, 6 – Had nothing to do all night.
Devyne Rensch, 7 – Easily handled Ryan Kent, Ranger’s biggest threat, and had some nice touches going forward, although his final ball could have been better.
Jurrien Timber, 8 – Missed a huge chance early on but did everything right after that, being solid at the back and getting involved in attacks.
Calvin Bassey, 8 – Continued his impressive start to life in Amsterdam, completely dominating the Rangers attack
Daley Blind, 7 – Had very little to do defensively and made some nice passes in the opposition half.
Edson Alvarez, 7 – Gave his team the lead with a great header and then didn’t put a foot wrong in front of the backline for the rest of the match, being rock solid if a little unspectacular.
Steven Berghuis, 8 – Played really well in central midfield, creating a huge amount with his pinpoint passing and crossing. He’s very much re-established his place in the starting XI.
Kenneth Taylor, 8 – Yet another excellent performance from the young midfielder. He created chances, won the ball and generally controlled the midfield.
Dusan Tadic, 6 – Once again was the least impressive player in the Ajax attack. The captain had a few nice touches and passes but looks far from his best on the right-hand side.
Mohammed Kudus, 9 – Got given a chance to prove himself and boy did he take it. Playing as a false 9, he got one beautiful assists, one fantastic goal, and was simply unstoppable. Expect him to stay in the starting XI.
Steven Bergwijn, 8 – Was a huge threat with his pace and dribbling throughout the match, and got the goal he deserved with his last touch, keeping his cool and rounding the keeper. What a signing he’s turning out to be.
