Former Portsmouth defender and fan favourite Christian Burgess scored twice to help them on their way. the 31-year-old converted from a set piece with just 12 minutes gone, adding his second with under 10 minutes remaining.

Victor Boniface won a penalty for Union either side of Burgess two goals, with captain Teddy Teuma converting from the spot. This win see’s Union move to within a point of Antwerp, while Genk slip into third place in the title play-offs. Genk and Union started level when the play-offs began, but side that has led the league for most of this season have lost two games in a row to relinquish their lead.

The two sides will face each other again in Genk next weekend. Should Union and Antwerp win their next game, their match in Antwerp on the 28th of May could determine where the title ends up this season.
