Perfect start for Gift Orban as Nigerian scores two impressive goals on Gent debut

Gift Orban got off to the perfect start for his new side Gent against Westerlo on Saturday. The striker, who joined from Stabæk in the winter window, scored two impressive goals on his debut as his side drew 3-3 away. The first was an acrobatic finish, while the second was a sweetly struck volley that gave Sinan Bolat absolutely no chance in the Westerlo goal. Gent paid €3m for the 20-year-old Nigerian, and if his debut is a sign of things to come it could prove to be a bargain.

The 20-year-old striker was part of Stabæk’s 2022 promotion winning side, with the Nigerian scoring an impressive 16 goals in 22 games. Orban only joined the Norwegian side in 2022 from FC Bison in Nigeria.

After their draw with Westerlo the Buffaloes are now on a three game winless run and have only one win their last five. They were closing the gap on Club Brugge in fourth, but now find the gap growing again, with the defending champions three points ahead after their 1-1 draw with Union St Gilloise on Friday night.
