Jasper Schendelaar saw his move to Sparta Rotterdam fall through, but he hasnโt ruled out a transfer this summer. The PEC Zwolle goalkeeper spoke with ESPN.
โThere was certainly some discussion going on, but in the end, it was off the table,โ Schendelaar replies when asked about Spartaโs interest, where he was considered a successor to the PSV-bound Nick Olij. โIโm at PEC and Iโm happy to still be here.โ
The goalkeeper doesnโt know whether a transfer to Sparta is definitively off the table. โI havenโt heard anything about it, but Iโve spoken to PEC Zwolle and Iโm still a player at PEC Zwolle,โ Schendelaar continues with a smile.
โI have ambitions too, and the club knows that. Iโll just have to see what comes my way; I think thatโs the most important thing. Then Iโll make a choice that feels right for me. PEC Zwolle has to like it too, of course, but right now Iโm just focusing on PEC.โ
For Schendelaar, the prospect of playing time is a key factor in any potential next move, although he wouldnโt be averse to a role as a backup goalkeeper at a major club either. โIf that opportunity comes, Iโm up for it.โ
