PEC Zwolle stopper open to a move: โ€œI have ambitions too, and the club knows thatโ€

Jasper Schendelaar saw his move to Sparta Rotterdam fall through, but he hasnโ€™t ruled out a transfer this summer. The PEC Zwolle goalkeeper spoke with ESPN.

โ€œThere was certainly some discussion going on, but in the end, it was off the table,โ€ Schendelaar replies when asked about Spartaโ€™s interest, where he was considered a successor to the PSV-bound Nick Olij. โ€œIโ€™m at PEC and Iโ€™m happy to still be here.โ€

The goalkeeper doesnโ€™t know whether a transfer to Sparta is definitively off the table. โ€œI havenโ€™t heard anything about it, but Iโ€™ve spoken to PEC Zwolle and Iโ€™m still a player at PEC Zwolle,โ€ Schendelaar continues with a smile.

โ€œI have ambitions too, and the club knows that. Iโ€™ll just have to see what comes my way; I think thatโ€™s the most important thing. Then Iโ€™ll make a choice that feels right for me. PEC Zwolle has to like it too, of course, but right now Iโ€™m just focusing on PEC.โ€

For Schendelaar, the prospect of playing time is a key factor in any potential next move, although he wouldnโ€™t be averse to a role as a backup goalkeeper at a major club either. โ€œIf that opportunity comes, Iโ€™m up for it.โ€
