Pape Habib Gueye set for Aberdeen instead of Hibernian

Reports last week that Pape Habib Gueye was heading to Hibernian appear to have been mistaken. Instead, the actual team that the Kortrijk striker will join is Aberdeen. As reported by Elian Coussement, the deal is expected to be completed within the next few days. Eyebrows were raised when Gueye was linked with Hibernian while following Aberdeen on social media instead. Now it appears that he was always set for there instead of north east Edinburgh.

The 23-year-old Senegalese forward’s contract was set to expire in 2024 and it seemed unlikely that the sides would agree on a renewal, given that the striker has only featured once so far this season.

Gueye burst onto the scene in Norway when playing for Aalesund. In two seasons at the club, he scored 25 goals in 59 games before joining Kortrijk in the winter of 2020. In 84 games for the side, he has scored 16 goals. The striker’s best season for the club was 2020/2021 when he grabbed five goals and three assists in 21 starts.

Kortrijk have only gained one point this season, which came last weekend in a 1-1 draw with Standard Liege. So far, the side have conceded 14 goals and scored just four. To make matters worse, new striker Thierry Ambrose picked up an injury during the game against Eupen.
