Only salary issues delaying Georginio Wijnaldum’s move from PSG to AS Roma

Georginio Wijndalum is all but certain to leave PSG and join AS Roma, with the deal set to be confirmed once salary issues are ironed out.

With the 31-year-old enduring a poor first season in France, being dropped from the Netherlands squad as a result, he entered the current transfer window keen on moving clubs to increase his chances of going to the World Cup.

It now looks like he’ll get what he wants, with Algemeen Dagblad agreeing with multiple Italian publications that a deal between his current club and Jose Mourinho’s has been all but agreed.

Reportedly, he will move to the Italian capital on an initial loan deal, and it will become permanent if he plays a certain number of matches over the course of the season.

The only thing preventing such a deal from being finalised is negotiations over who will pay his large salary, with Roma wanting PSG to cover half of it.

It’s widely believed that an agreement will be reached in the coming days though, after which he will officially be a Roma player.
