On loan Newcastle United midfielder denies reports that he will return to England in January

On loan Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden has denied reports that he is going to cut his loan deal with Standard Liege short in January. The 28-year-old midfielder took to social media to state that the reports were ‘nonsense’. The midfielder has not played since the third of December when he was on the bench against Club Brugge. Prior to that, Hayden started eight of the nine matches he has played in.

Hayden only joined Standard late in the transfer window, making his debut in September. The club were desperate to find a defensive midfielder and prior to the Club Brugge and Gent games he was a regular starter for Carl Hoefkens. It appears that an injury has kept him out of the squad recently.

Standard can ill afford to lose any key players in January given that the side are now under a transfer embargo. Whether or not that is still in place depends on how the club responds. They were given a transfer embargo earlier in the season but were able to rectify the issues relatively quickly.
