On loan Barcelona defender Sergiño Dest not worried about where he will play next season

In an interview with ESPN, on loan Barcelona defender Sergiño Dest was asked about his future after it was revealed that PSV are seriously considering taking up the purchase option they have on the USMNT defender. After spending last season on loan in Serie A With AC Milan, Dest joined PSV in the summer from Barcelona for another loan spell.

The 23-year-old said ‘I think it’s still too early to talk about that. A lot can still happen. I definitely want to become champion with PSV, win the cup and go very far in the Champions League. We are well on our way as a team and can break records. I’m not focused on where I’ll play next year. I’m focused on this season and want to have an exceptional season with this team’.

Dest broke through in Dutch football with Ajax during the 2019/2020 season. Barcelona signed him in 2020 and he went on to make 72 appearances for the Catalan giants, scoring three goals. He was then loaned out to AC Milan where he only managed to make 14 appearances during the 2022/2023 season. So far this year, he has played 19 games for PSV, scoring once.

The side currently have a strong lead at the top of the Eredivisie, with a 10 point gap over second played Feyenoord. They have only conceded six goals in 16 games, by far the best defensive record in the league. They also have scored 56, giving them the best attack as well. Their first game back in the league after the winter break will be a home clash with Excelsior on the 13th of January.
