Cercle Brugge are in the Slovenian capital to face an inform Olimpija Ljuljana in the Conference League this evening. The side from the Slovenian capital have only lost one game in the competition so far, sitting in seventh place with an impressive nine points. Cercle’s recent win over Hearts means they have two wins from their four games, with a draw and a loss as well. A win over their opponents could see Cercle jump into the top eight sides with just one game to go.
Cercle drew their game last weekend against Union St Gilloise 0-0, with that also marking the end of Kevin Denkey’s time in Belgium as he crosses over to the MLS. The Togolese forward leaves a huge goalscoring hole for the side, although last time out against Hearts young forward Paris Brunner really impressed. Cercle recently announced a new head coach in Ferdinand Feldhofer, with the Austrian taking over from the popular Miron Muslic. A win in the Conference League against Olimpija could do his standing with the fanbase the world of good.
It certainly won’t be easy for Cercle. Olimpija are yet to concede at home, winning both home games and scoring three goals. They have beaten Larne and LASK at home, only losing to Bundesliga side FC Heidenheim so far. The Slovenian league has now entered its winter break and won’t return until February. Last weekend the side drew 1-1 away from home with NK Bravo. They have only lost one of their 18 games in the Prva Liga this season. At home they have scored 16 goals in nine games and conceded just four. Austrian forward Raul Florucz leads the side in terms of goals with 12 in 23. Three of these have come in the Conference League.
Cercle end their campaign against Istanbul BaÅŸakÅŸehir, while Olimpija will travel to Poland to face one of the competitions surprise packages in Jagiellonia Bialystok.
