Ole Romeny dedicates goal to grandmother and Indonesian people

Ole Romeny was Indonesiaโ€™s hero on Tuesday as his goal against Bahrain gave the country three important points in the Asian World Cup qualifying series. After the match, Romeny explained that this decisive 1-0 strike held both personal and patriotic importance.

โ€œI told my mother that every goal I score in the Indonesian shirt will be for my grandmother. She is the reason I am here. I know she will be very proud of me. And this goal is also for the whole of Indonesia.

โ€œThe way the people cheer us on, they smile at us, sometimes they even cry. Yes, this is also for the whole country.โ€

Romeny then explains why he celebrated his goal by pushing his head up, with his right hand under his chin in a style similar to that of Virgil van Dijk.

โ€œI meant that as a positive message for children, and actually everyone, who is having a hard time,โ€™ said the 24-year-old Oxford United striker. โ€œWhether thatโ€™s in football or in life. Keep working hard and believing in yourself. Always keep your head up.โ€
