OH Leuven turn to former Standard Liege defender in bid to strengthen defence

According to Sacha Tavolieri, OH Leuven are looking to sign Konstantinos Laïfis to a two-year contract. The Cypriot international defender is available on a free transfer after leaving Standard Liege in the summer. OH Leuven have offered a deal until 2026, with the option for a further year. The side struggled at the back last season and would like to sign a left-footed defender.

Laïfis certainty brings plenty of experience in the Belgian Pro League. The 31-year-old had been with Standard since 2016, initially on loan from Olympiacos before making the move permanent in 2018. During his time in Liege the defender made 284 appearances, grabbing 16 goals in the process. He played in Europe for the side and was part of the Belgian cup winning team of 2018.

His old club Standard are looking to replace the likes of Laïfis and other players who have left this summer at the end of their contracts. However, they have very little budget to work with for a squad that needs a complete overhaul.
