OH Leuven sign Japanese international Kento Misao

OH Leuven have announced the signing of Japanese international Kento Misao. The 27-year-old has signed a two year contract at the club as he departs CD Santa Clara in Portugal for Belgium. Misao becomes the first Japanese player to play for the club, according to the clubs website.

Misao, who has won six caps for Japan, began his career at Tokyo Verdy. After 39 appearances over a two year period, he moved to Kashima Antlers. The midfielder spent four years at the Antlers, playing an impressive 239 games and scoring six goals. This caught the attention of Santa Clara, who signed Misao in January of 2023. After just six months and 17 appearances, he has moved once again to join OH Leuven. Santa Clara were relegated last season from the top flight of Portuguese football.

Misao can play as a central midfielder with a more defensive mindset. If required, he has also appeared as a central defender during his career.
