Official | Westerlo sign Nacer Chadli from Basaksehir

Westerlo have announced the signing of Nacer Chadli, who has joined from Basaksehir on a season-long loan.

Chadli has enjoyed some success in Turkey but has hardly set the world alight, and was looking to make a move this summer that would increase his chances of getting back into the Belgium squad for the World Cup.

With that goal in mind, he’s chosen to return to his home country to play for Westerlo for the season, joining on loan for the campaign.

He used to be a permanent fixture in the national team selection, picking up 66 caps, but hasn’t played for them since the Euros last year.

The winger isn’t the only player who has chosen to move to the Pro League for the sake of his World Cup chances with Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Dedrick Boyata also doing so.

Chadli will have to hugely impress at Westerlo to convince Robert Martinez though with Thorgan Hazard, Yannick Carrasco and Timothy Castagne all ahead of him in the pecking for the position on the left side of midfield.
