Official | PSV sign Anwar El Ghazi from Aston Villa

PSV have signed Dutch winger Anwar El Ghazi from Aston Villa for a fee of around €3m.

A deal has looked all but certain to happen for a number of days now with the club wanting to bring him in as an alternative to the injured Noni Madueke on the right wing.

Indeed, it’s been clear that they’ve intended to sign the Dutchman regardless of if Cody Gakpo leaves or not, and they’ve now done just that.

“I am very happy that I am going to play here,” he told the club’s official website.

“The smile I have on my face today says it all. From the moment I heard that PSV was interested in me, I was enthusiastic. I immediately imagined what it would be like to play here in Eindhoven and the feeling I got from that was good.”

Director of Football John de Jong spoke of El Ghazi’s versatility being a factor in the signing, suggesting he could be used on the left or in the centre of attack too.

The player was flattered by highly De Jong and Ruud van Nistelrooy rate him, and is determined to prove them right.

“From the conversations with coach Ruud van Nistelrooij and John de Jong it turns out that they see it very much in me,” he added.

“We have the same goals in mind and I think I can be of value to this team. I’m here to become more consistent, score goals, provide assists and fight for the championship. The trainer has indicated that he would like to work with me to get that done.

“I’ve been doing everything I can to perform day in and day out all my career and everyone can expect that from me again.”
