Official | Kevin Strootman leaves Marseille to return to Genoa

Kevin Strootman has returned to Genoa, joining the Italian club on loan from Marseille for a second time.

Both Strootman and Marseille have been keen to go their separate ways this summer, bringing an end to a spell in which the Dutchman has been loaned out twice and struggled hugely with injuries.

His desire to go has been only increased by the fact that many fans of the French club have sent him threatening messages telling him to leave due to his hefty salary.

A solution has now been found with the midfielder returning to Genoa, where he played on loan for the first half of 2021.

He’s again heading there on loan with Marseille apparently still paying a considerable portion of his wages, and while the French side may not be too happy with the deal, the Italian club certainly are.

Strootman became a popular figure when he played there previously and, if he can stay fit, could be a top player in the Italian second division, where they now play.
