Ajax have announced the signing of Austrian midfielder Florian Grillitsch.
Grillitsch entered this transfer window as a free agent after leaving Hoffenheim and has attracted interest from major clubs throughout Europe such as Roma and Arsenal.
Last week, it was reported that Feyenoord were trying to sign the Austrian as a replacement for Fredrik Aursnes, but that his high salary demands could be an issue for them.
Yesterday, it emerged that Ajax were to beat their arch-rivals to the player, and the signing has now been officially announced by the Eredivisie champions.
The 27-year-old has signed an initial one-year deal, with an option included to extend it for two further seasons.
While he plays in the same position as Edson Alvarez, he is not being signed as a replacement for the Mexican, with the club not allowing him to leave for Chelsea.
Grillitsch could also serve as cover further forward in midfield and in central defence.
