Nottingham Forest tracking sixteen-goal striker Sydney van Hooijdonk

According to The Athletic, Nottingham Forest are interested in 23-year-old Sydney van Hooijdonk. The Heerenveen striker, on loan from Bologna, has scored 16 goals in 32 games making him the third-highest goal scorer in the Eredivisie this season.

If Sydney van Hooijdonk were to make the move to the City Ground in the summer, he’d be following in the footsteps of his father, Pierre, who played for Forest between 1997 and 1999. Pierre van Hooijdonk scored 36 goals in 69 appearances as a striker for the Reds.

In July 2021, Sydney van Hooijdonk joined Serie A side Bologna as a free agent, having left NAC Breda. After making just four appearances for the Italian club, van Hooijdonk was loaned to Heerenveen where he scored six goals in 13 appearances within the second half of the 21/22 campaign. After the loan deal expired, Heerenveen decided to re-sign Van Hooijdonk on a season-long loan deal until the end of this season.

The striker has been outstanding this season. Having scored seven goals in his last six league games, it comes as no surprise that Premier League clubs are showing interest in the talented 23-year-old. If Steve Cooper’s Nottingham Forest remain in the Premier League, a move for Sydney van Hooijdonk could be on the cards.
