Nottingham Forest fail in Chuba Akpom signing over avoiding relegation purchase option

De Telegraaf are reporting that Nottingham Forest were unable to sign Chuba Akpom on deadline day due to their desire to include a purchase option in the loan deal that would only be triggered if they avoided relegation. For Ajax this was deemed inadequate much given that the Premier League side are currently sat in 16th place. Akpom also had to play six games for the clause to be triggered at the end of the season.

Furthermore, the timing of the offer meant that for Ajax, it gave very little time for them to then go and find a replacement for Akpom in the transfer market. There were concerns that an injury to Brian Brobbery would have left them short of strikers in their pursuit for a top three finish. At the moment, the club from Amsterdam are sitting in fifth place, four points behind FC Twente who occupy third place. At the weekend they have a huge fixture, with leaders PSV Eindhoven coming to the Johan Cruijff Arena.
