Newcastle United midfielder set to join Standard Liege instead of Luton Town

Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Standard Liege are set to announce the signing of 28-year-old midfielder Isaac Hayden on loan from Newcastle United. The central midfielder was set to join Luton Town, but according to HNB Standard have hijacked the deal. Hayden has been training separately from the main squad at Newcastle with the anticipation of the transfer.

The former Arsenal academy product has played for the likes of Hull City and Norwich City, both on loan. He joined Newcastle in the summer of 2016 and went on to make 171 appearances, scoring seven goals. during the 2022/2023 season, he made just 14 appearances for Norwich in the EFL Championship. Standard have been looking for a more defensively minded midfielder and believe Hayden will help add some experience and combativity in the central areas.

Standard are also looking to bring Moussa Djenepo back to Belgium from Southampton.

The side are currently without a win from their opening six games, which has caused fan frustration directed towards owners 777.
