Netherlands coach attended Volendam vs Feyenoord to watch Justin Bijlow

Netherlands goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek attended Feyenoord’s match with Volendam to watch Justin Bijlow ahead of the final World Cup squad being announced.

Louis van Gaal surprised many when he opted not to include Bijlow, previously his first-choice goalkeeper, in his Netherlands squad for the September matches after the Feyenoord man made a fairly poor start to the 2022/23 season.

Since then though, the 24-year-old has performed well, keeping three clean sheets in eight matches with his excellent display in the 1-0 win over Lazio a highlight.

He followed that up with another solid match at Volendam at the week, making two saves to keep a clean sheet, and Hoek watched that one in person.

The final Oranje squad for the World Cup will be announced at the end of the week, so Hoek was no doubt there to take one final look at Bijlow before recommending to Van Gaal which goalkeepers should be taken to Qatar.

The manager has previously stated that he wants to take four, and with Bijlow in good form, he has a good chance of being one of them.
