NEC Nijmegen take up purchase option on top scoring Japanese striker

NEC Nijmegen have confirmed that striker Koki Ogawa will remain with the side until 2027. The 26-year-old joined the side in the summer on loan from J-League Yokahama FC, with the loan agreement including a purchase option. With still a few weeks left of the season, NEC have moved quickly to pick up the purchase option and secure the striker until 2027.

Ogawa is the sides top scorer this season, with eight Eredivisie goals in 24 games. He also scored four goals in four games in the KNVB Cup, with the side having qualified for the final against Feyenoord later this year. While Magnus Mattsson scored 11 goals prior to his departure to FC Copenhagen, Ogawa has plenty of time to overtake the sides now former central midfielder.

Ogawa was also capped once by the Japanese national team in 2019, playing in the East Asian Football Championship. During the group stages he played against Hong Kong and scored a hat-trick. He has not been capped since.

NEC are currently sixth in the league, two points behind Ajax in fifth.
