NEC Nijmegen set to sign former Sporting CP and Eintracht Frankfurt striker Bas Dost

According to Voetbal International, NEC Nijmegen are set to strengthen their attack with the signing of Bas Dost. The 34-year-old striker is expected to sign a one-year contract at the Goffertstadion in the hopes that he’ll provide the Eredivisie side with more firepower this season. Dost is currently a free agent, following one successful season with Utrecht.

Dost is a proven goalscorer in the Eredivisie. The veteran forward kicked off his career with Heracles Almelo, where he scored 14 goals in 34 league games during the 09/10 campaign. A move to Heerenveen followed, and he scored an incredible 45 goals in 66 top flight appearances. Dost has also had successful spells in Germany, Portugal and Belgium.

Last season Bas Dost scored nine goals in 22 appearances for Utrecht, who finished seventh in the league. Dost lost his starting place due to an injury, whilst Utrecht’s Tasos Douvikas shared the Eredivisie’s top scorer award with Xavi Simons. Since leaving Utrecht at the end of the last campaign, several sides including FC Emmen and Heracles have expressed interest in Dost. NEC Nijmegen are set to win the race for the former Club Brugge and Sporting CP striker.
