NEC Nijmegen’s assistant manager Ron de Groot fell ill on Saturday afternoon during a football match he was playing in.
The coach was resuscitated on the spot and immediately admitted to hospital. The day after the eventful afternoon, the 64-year-old Nijmegen resident is said to be doing well under the circumstances.
The club announced this on Sunday morning in a short statement on their website. De Groot is being held in hospital and is awaiting further examination.
He made his debut as a player in September 1979 for NEC and has been the assistant to head coach Rogier Meijer for 169 matches.
