Voetbalkrant are reporting that, according to Italian media, Zulte Waregem’s teenage midfielder Pape Demba Diop is wanted by Napoli. While the 19-year-old has struggled for regular game time with the Belgian side, he was one of the stars for Senegal as they won the recent U20 AFCON. It appears that Napoli were impressed by his performances and want to bring him to Italy.
Diop currently has a contract with the club until 2024, having joined from Senegalese side Diambars FC last summer. According to Transfermarkt the player is currently valued at €400k. Given he will be out of contract at the end of next season, it is unlikely that Zulte Waregem will be able to ask for a larger sum than €400k.
The side are also locked in a relegation battle, with just three games left to save their season. While veterans such as Jelle Vossen still believe the side can stay up, it is looking increasingly likely that they will be playing in the second tier of Belgian football next season.
