Montpellier set to sign French defender from FC Utrecht

De Telegraaf are reporting that Montpellier are set to sign Modibo Sagnan from FC Utrecht. The 24-year-old French defender has made 13 appearances in the Eredivisie this season, scoring one goal. Of those 13 matches, 10 have been starts. Sagnan was a former French youth international before switching his international allegiance to Mali. The deal has been reported to be around €3.5m plus bonuses.

Sagnan began his career with Lens, where he made 19 appearances for the first team. He was then transferred to Real Sociedad in the winter of 2019, making 22 appearances for the La Liga side. During that period he also spent time on loan at CD Mirandes and Tondela. In the summer of 2022 FC Utrecht brought Sagnan on loan, and after 28 appearances and one goal he made the move permanent in the summer.

Sagnan joins Mats Seuntjens and Calvin Raatsie in having left the Eredivisie club this winter.
