Molde strike late to heap more pressure on Ronny Deila at Club Brugge

Club Brugge will welcome Molde to West Flanders next week a goal down in their Conference League last 16 tie. The game looked to be heading to a draw before Fredrik Gulbrandsen broke through to earn the Norwegian side a win in the 92nd minute. This result will not have helped Reonny Deila, who has come under increasing pressure after the side’s struggles in the league and their failure to reach the cup final.

Both sides had early chances but could not be separated until Halldor Stenevik converted a fine Molde move to make it 1-0 just before half-time. Club pushed for an equaliser but struggled to create many clear cut chances, with only two of their 13 chances being on target. With the game winding down, the away side were awarded a penalty. Maxim De Cuyper coolly slotted home to make it 1-1, a fair result in an even game.

However, after Gulbrandsen’s late strike Club will need to win at home, something that they should be able to do having not lost at home in the competition yet. For Deila, it means that any momentum and releasing of pressure he had gained from the weekend’s 3-0 win over Genk has already disappeared.
