Memphis Depay hits out at ‘disrespectful’ rumours

Memphis Depay says that rumours going around that he’s feigning his injury so that he doesn’t have to play before the World Cup and risk his fitness are untrue and disrespectful.

Memphis picked up what was initially thought to be a minor injury just over a month ago in the last international break and hasn’t played for Barcelona since then.

On multiple occasions, he has looked set to return before ultimately not being included in his club’s matchday squad, which has raised suspicions.

Some of the Spanish press as well as Dick Advocaat have claimed the Dutchman is actively choosing not to play for Barcelona to ensure he’s fit for the World Cup.

He has slammed such rumours though, stating they’re not true and are disrespectful.

“Hearing some disrespectful rumors about me purposely slowing down my injury,” he tweeted.

The media sharing things so easy without actually knowing the facts which as end result creates a negative narrative around my name!

Don’t ever disrespect my professionalism!
