Maxim De Cuyper reveals Club Brugge wanted to bring him back from Westerlo loan

As reported by Voetbalkrant, Westerlo’s on loan full-back Maxim De Cuyper has revealed that his parent side Club Brugge wanted to bring him back to the Jan Breydal in the winter. Instead, De Cuyper opted to remain at Westerlo to give himself a better chance to play and develop.

The 22-year-old has spent two seasons on loan in Westerlo, helping them secure promotion back to the top flight during the 2021/2022 season. So far this campaign, De Cuyper has been the sides stand out player. From left-back he has contributed an impressive seven goals and six assists. At the weekend De Cuyper dispatched a penalty against Sint-Truiden to give his side all three points. There is talk that the full-back could be included in a national selection under new coach Demenico Tedesco in the near future.

Newly promoted Westerlo are currently seventh in the table with 11 wins from their 26 games. Remarkably, their impressive season see’s them just four points behind defending champions Club Brugge in fourth.
