De Telegraaf are reporting that Sparta Rotterdam head coach Maurice Steijn has agreed on a three-year contract with Ajax. Steijn has done a superb job this season at Sparta, guiding the club to a sixth-place finish in the Eredivisie and narrowly missing out on Europa Conference League qualification for next season. Now, 49-year-old Steijn is set to become the new Ajax manager.
Steijn will succeed John Heitinga in managing Ajax. The Dutch giants endured a difficult campaign, as they finished the season in third place, missing out on Champions League football next season. Ajax will be Maurice Steijn’s fifth club as a manager. He previously managed ADO Den Haag, VVV-Venlo, NAC Breda and Al-Wahda FC in the United Arab Emirates. He joined Sparta Rotterdam last year, succeeding Henk Fraser.Â
Maurice Steijn could be unveiled as the new Ajax manager very soon. Once Ajax and Sparta reach an agreement, the deal will be done.
