There was plenty of excitement last summer when Westerlo made Matija Frigan their record signing. The young Croatian forward joined from Rijeka, where he had scored 14 goals in 31 games. It is fair to say he struggled in his first season in Belgium, much like the team did. In 31 games he managed just five goals and was stuck on the bench for much of the season.
Fast forward a few months, and Frigan is living up to the potential that saw Westerlo invest heavily in him. After another two goals against Standard Liege on Saturday, the striker has now scored four goals in nine games. It could have been even more, with Frigan missing a penalty last weekend against Antwerp. However, he showed how much his confidence has grown in recent months. Despite missing the spot kick, Frigan responded a few minutes later with a lovely turn in the box followed by a fine finish.
For Westerlo, Frigan coming into form is a great boost having lost Lucas Stassin late in the summer transfer window.
