KV Kortrijk goalkeeper Marko Ilic is hopeful for a call up to the Serbia squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Speaking to HLN, the inform goalkeeper said “I hope to be there, but there are several excellent Serbian goalkeepers. However, it would be a dream come true”.
Ilic was talking following the surprise victory over league leaders Royal Antwerp at the weekend. in which he gave credit to the home fans: “It was a great game…the fans have been phenomenal. They propelled us forward. I know we have avid fans, but Sunday was next level. It was an important win because we didn’t start the season well.”
Kortrijk currently sit in 14th place, just one point above the relegation zone. They travel to another of the leagues early pace setters in Genk this weekend. “They are currently playing the best football in our league. It will be a fraught and difficult duel, but we have shown what we are capable of. If we believe in ourselves, we can beat any team in Belgium” said Ilic.
