Marc Overmars returning to Elfsborg for Swedish international defender

Sacha Tavolieri is reporting that Antwerp are looking to sign Elfsborg’s Gustaf Lagerbielke. The 23-year-old central defender is, according to Tavolieri, the sides top priority for the remainder of the transfer window. Having lost William Pacho to Eintracht Frankfurt, it is understandable that Marc Overmars wants to bring in another young central defender. The side have already had some success with signing a player from the Swedish club, with Jacob Ondrejka having joined earlier this year. The 20-year-old winger made his league debut against Cercle Brugge at the weekend.

Lagerbielke began his career with AIK, but never made an appearance for the side. After spells with lower league Swedish sides, he joined Elfsborg in the summer of 2021, midway through the Swedish 2021 season. He played 11 games his first season, before spending the 2022 season on loan at Degefors. This year, he has been ever present for the side that are currently leading the Allsvenskan. However, at the weekend they lost against defending champions BK Häcken, who are now one point behind the side having played one game more.

Antwerp got their title defence off to a winning start with a 1-0 victory over Cercle Brugge.
