Marc Overmars planning to sign winger for Antwerp in January

Antwerp Director of Football Marc Overmars says he’d like to bring a new winger to the club in January, feeling they’re weak in that area.

It was an immensely busy transfer window for Antwerp, with nine new players being signed for a total amount of around €25m.

Three of those players, Calvin Stengs, Anthony Valencia and Arbnor Muja, are wingers, but Overmars still wants to improve that area in the next transfer window, feeling the current options lack pace.

“I don’t think we have wingers with pure speed in the depths. That may be a point of attention for the coming period,” he said in an interview with his club.

In his eyes, the only player in the squad that fits that profile is Michel-Ange Balikwisha, who is currently out injured.

“We do miss them,” he continued.

“On the other hand, he might come back in a month. Every player you get is at the expense of another player in the team and at some point, the team has to grow.”
