Marc Overmars and Antwerp interested in signing Steven Berghuis from Ajax

According to Talip Can, Antwerp are interested in signing Steven Berghuis from Ajax this summer. According to Can, Antwerp head coach Mark Van Bommel has tried to sign the 31-year-old at his former clubs PSV and Wolsburg. However, with Marc Overmars now the Sporting Director at Antwerp, Berghuis may well be more inclined to join up with Van Bommel. the Dutch midfielder is currently under contract at Ajax until 2025.

The midfielder began his career at FC Twente, before joining AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2012. In three seasons for the side he played 92 games and scored 21 goals. After an unsuccessful spell in England with Watford between 2015 and 2017, he joined Feyenoord in the summer of 2017. He played for the Rotterdam based side until 2021, making 162 appearances and scoring 79 goals. Since joining Ajax in the summer of 2021, he has played 88 games and scored 23 goals.

Antwerp are the defending Belgian champions, having won the league title for the first time since 1957 last season.
