Marc Degryse: Frenkie de Jong ‘outclassed’ Kevin de Bruyne

Frenkie de Jong “outclassed” Kevin de Bruyne the last time the Netherlands and Belgium faced each other, says former Belgian international Marc Degryse.

The two sides go head to head on Sunday night, with Belgium needing to win by at least three goals if they want to win the Nations League group.

That’s because they lost 4-1 to the Dutch last time they played, with Louis van Gaal’s side cruising to victory back in June.

Looking back on that night on De Morgen, Degryse said De Bruyne was outclassed by De Jong.

“De Bruyne was already on holiday in his head. He was completely outclassed by Frenkie de Jong,” he said.

He was also less than impressed with veteran defenders Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

“Toby Alderweireld was too far backwards just like at the European Championship against Italy, Jan Vertonghen hasn’t gotten any faster with the years. The Netherlands hurt us with the quick counter,” he added.
