Manchester United losing interest in PSV’s Cody Gakpo, prioritising Ajax’s Antony

Manchester United’s interest in PSV winger Cody Gakpo has cooled, with the club choosing to prioritise the signing of Ajax’s Antony instead.

The English club have been interested in both Eredivisie talents throughout the current transfer window, and have ramped up efforts to sign them in the past few weeks.

It was originally thought that Gakpo was seen as a backup option should they fail to sign Antony, but recent reports have suggested that they’re keen to bring both to Old Trafford.

However, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic, they’re now cooling their interest in Gakpo and have chosen to focus on signing Antony.

Ornstein says the club are confident of getting a deal done before the end of the summer, but it’s worth stating that since his report, Ajax’s efforts to sign Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech as a replacement have stalled, making it more likely they’ll keep Antony after all.
