Manchester United and Newcastle interested in Arthur Vermeeren

David Van den Broeck is reporting that Manchester United and Newcastle are both monitoring Antwerp’s hot prospect Arthur Vermeeren. The 18-year-old recently signed a new contract with the Great Old that ties him up until 2026, yet given his performances this season it is unlikely he will still be on the Antwerp books by then.

The central midfielder has been likened to a Barcelona academy prospect, such is his composure on the ball and ability to read the game. Vemeeren has made 16 appearances in all competitions for the Great Old.

Following injuries to Alhassan Yusuf and Pieter Gerkens, the Antwerp academy prospect suddenly found himself as one of the only recognised central midfielders in the team. However, after his impressive performances, it is unlikely that the aforementioned Yusuf and Gerkens will be able to walk back into the team. Mark Van Bommel has been impressed with what he has seen from the youngster.

With a new Belgian national team coach as well, it surely will not be long before Vemeeren is knocking on the door of the Red Devils first team. If the teenager continues to impress, it also won’t be long until top European clubs start to look at signing the youngster.
