Manchester United and Barcelona target Arthur Vermeeren wants to remain at Antwerp

Antwerp’s teenage sensation Arthur Vermeeren has been attracting interest from a host of big name clubs, including Manchester United and Barcelona. In an interview with HLN, the midfielder expressed his desire to stay at the Belgian champions until 2024 at least. While he was realistic and not wanting to promise anything, the midfielder was also aware that a permanent transfer with a rental back to Antwerp would be possible.

Vermeeren was one of the big stories that emerged during Antwerp’s triumphant season. The 18-year-old was given first team opportunities due to injuries to starting midfielders, but took his chance with both hands. By the end of the season he was a permanent fixture of Mark van Bommel’s team, even scoring a crucial late winner against defending champions Club Brugge during the playoffs. This was also the first professional goal of Vermeeren’s career. According to Transfermarkt, Vermeeren is one of the highest valued players in the league at €17m.
