Manchester City legend Yaya Toure could join Carl Hoefkens at Standard Liege

Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that former Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure could join Carl Hoefkens staff at Standard Liege. Hoefkens was recently announced as the new head coach of the club, taking over from Ronny Deila. Ironically, Deila joined Club Brugge from Standard, the side that sacked Hoefkens midway through the 2022/2023 season. Hoefkens was linked with the vacancy’s at Leicester City and Swansea.

Toure is known by sporting director Fergal Harkin from his time at Manchester City. Toure, during his early career, spent time playing in Belgium with SK Beveren. Toure is one of the most decorated Cote d’Ivoire players of all time, having won four African players of the year, one AFCON, one Champions League and three Premier League titles, alongside a host of other trophies.

Toure played over 300 games for Manchester City, scoring 79 goals and providing 49 assists. At international level, the imposing midfielder played 97 games and scored 19 goals.
