Man Utd close to giving up pursuit of Ajax’s Antony

Manchester United are reportedly close to giving up in their attempts to sign Antony due to the price tag Ajax have put on him.

Since leaving Ajax to take charge at Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag has been keen to take some players from his former club with him to England.

While Jurrien Timber opted to stay put, the signing of Lisandro Martinez has already been confirmed and Antony has been linked with a move to the Premier League side all summer.

Ajax have remained adamant that they have no intention of selling the Brazilian though and have thus put a huge price tag on him, with it now at just over €100 million according to the Daily Mail.

As a result of that, Ten Hag and co are apparently now giving up their pursuit of the winger, says journalist Phil Brown.

“Manchester United have given up on their pursuit of Anthony due to Ajax’s asking price,” he tweeted.

“There is a slim chance it could be revisited if other moves don’t come off but it’s off the agenda for the moment.”

If he does end up leaving, Ajax already have a replacement ready in their ranks after signing Francisco Conceição from Porto.
