Lukaku appears at Eredivisie club for preseason preparations

FC Volendam are exploring whether Jordan Lukaku can strengthen the first team squad. Romeluโ€™s younger brother has joined the squad for a short pre-season training camp.

Lukaku (30) has been without a club for a while, since leaving Turkish side Adanaspor last October. The left-back hopes to revive his career in the Netherlands and has reported to Zeeland for a two-day internship with FC Volendam, who are holding a training camp in the province this week.

Technical director Patrick Busby recently told VI in an extensive interview that FC Volendam are still looking for a second left-back to compete with Yannick Leliendal. That could be Lukaku. Volendam held a friendly against Regioteam Schouwen-Duiveland on Wednesday and won 3-1. Lukaku didnโ€™t play in that match, but he did walk around the complex in club colours.

Like his brother Romelu, who is over a year older, Lukaku came from Anderlechtโ€™s youth academy and later played for KV Oostende, Lazio, FC Antwerp, Vicenza, Ponferradina, and Adanaspor. His Turkish adventure turned into a nightmare, he previously told the Belgian media. Thus, with improved fitness, he could appear in the Eredivisie next season.
