Louis van Gaal believes that Cody Gakpo has everything required to become a top number 10 and was pleased with how he did there against Poland.
Gakpo is naturally a left winger, but Van Gaal decided to use him as a number 10 in the latest match, even though the PSV man doesn’t want to play there.
The decision proved to be a good one with Gakpo scoring the opening goal and generally playing well. The manager was indeed happy with his performance and thinks he has everything needed for that role.
“I thought that Cody Gakpo carried out his duties in possession of the ball and in possession of the opponent,” he told NOS.
“This was a good lesson for him. A good development too, because he doesn’t want to play there himself. He prefers to play from the left. But I think he has everything to become a good ten.
“He scored again, that’s also important. It was a world-class goal, wasn’t it? I jumped off the bench. I don’t normally do that. It was a top goal.”
