Louis van Gaal and co keeping a close eye on Donyell Malen and Arnaut Danjuma ahead of World Cup selection

Louis van Gaal and his team are watching Donyell Malen and Arnaut Danjuma closely ahead of the manager selecting his Netherlands World Cup squad.

Malen and Danjuma were important members of the Netherlands squad when Van Gaal first took over but both have encountered injury problems since.

As a result, neither player was in the most recent Oranje selection, the last one before the World Cup squad is chosen, hurting their chances of going to Qatar.

However, assistant manager Danny Blind has confirmed both are very much in the national team picture and could yet be selected.

“There are a lot of guys like that,” he said on Ziggo Sport, referring to Malen returning from injury.

“For example, Danjuma is back playing at Villarreal. Well, that goes for Malen too. He is definitely being watched.

“He has been injured for a while, but since his return, he has already been in the starting lineup twice.”
